Episode 30: Why You Keep Putting Yourself Last (ft. Kristen Griffin)

You know you belong on your own list. You've probably told a friend the same thing. And you're still at the bottom of it.

Kristen Griffin is a life designer. She works with women who've built something successful, then look up and realize they've changed and their life hasn't caught up. Most of them don't want to blow anything up. They still want to care for their people. They're still ambitious. They just can't keep doing it the old way, because, as Kristen puts it, the old way works until it doesn't.

What we get into:

Knowing vs. knowing how. Plenty of women already believe putting themselves first isn't selfish. They still feel a little guilty, and they still have no idea where to start.

The VIBE Code. Kristen's method: visibility (what's running the show right now), internal trust (learning to listen), boundary action (practicing something different), and embodiment (living it until it sticks).

The eyelashes story. One of Kristen's clients spent years in protect-mode. The first time she paused in her car to check in with her body, all she noticed was that she needed her eyelashes done. Then she noticed her chest got tight every time she thought about a stressful situation. That was her no. Her yes felt relaxed.

Turning down the noise. Auto-writing (you don't lift the pen), breathwork, and slam balls when you need to get the yuck out. Your shower epiphanies happen for a reason: the noise finally got low enough to hear yourself.

What if this is the best part of your life? When I admitted part of me wants to burn my old life down at 48, Kristen asked me that. I'm still thinking about it.

The belief loop. If you don't believe you can have something, your effort gets half-hearted, the result disappoints, and the belief gets stronger. Kristen starts with a belief you can actually say is true today.

The fancy toilet paper. Kristen's old mentor wanted more for herself financially and didn't have much money. So she asked what a rich woman would do, and bought the fanciest toilet paper she could find. Small, daily, and real.

Plus the rapid fire: Kristen's matcha collagen with moringa (since 2018, before it was cool), her "hippie mocha" with Dandy Blend and a RASA cacao adaptogen blend, the Americano habit she's trying to quit, and what she's reading now: Feel the Fear and Do It Anyway.
