Episode 28: Why You Keep Quitting Your Goals (ft. Paige C. Clark)
The new habit starts Monday. Then Monday gets busy. Tuesday you're tired. By the next Monday a whole week is gone, and you're telling yourself you'll start fresh.
If that's you, you're not lazy and you're not undisciplined. Paige C. Clark is a professional accountability partner with a master's in life coaching, and her whole business is built on one honest observation: if you could have done it on your own, you would have done it already.
What we get into:
Why motivation won't carry you. Motivation gives you the idea, the vision, the grand plan. It was never designed to follow you through the whole thing. That's why the gym is packed in January and quiet by March.
Building room to fall off into your plan. When a client says she went off plan, Paige asks whether she built the ability to go off plan into the plan. Margin, rest days, the 20%. If it's built in, you never actually fell off.
Shame grows in the dark. Whether you did the thing or not is morally neutral. Shame isolates, and isolation is where it takes root. Bringing someone alongside you is how you grow past it.
Know your fall-off number. For Paige it's two days. After two days off, getting back is hard, so she makes sure she's back on day three. Self-awareness turns a pitfall into a plan.
Radical accountability. One-to-one, one-way, and daily. Texts, voice memos, and a lot of GIFs. One client has texted her food plan for the next day almost every night for six months.
Regulation comes before follow-through. When your nervous system is in fight, flight, or freeze, you're not choosing the couch. Paige's tool: pause and ask what your future self would do.
Plus the fun stuff: Paige's favorite morning drink and the book she recommends to everyone, Don't Believe Everything You Think.
